Archbishop Spyridon to Lead Pilgrimage to Constantinople

New York - His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, leaves today for a Pilgrimage to the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople with 22 members of the Archdiocesan Presbyters Council, who will also convene their Spring meeting at the Patriarchate.

The centerpiece of the visit will be the celebration of the Third Sunday of Lent, the Veneration of the Holy Cross, at the Patriarchal Cathedral of Saint George with His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the members of the Holy Synod.

On Saturday, March 29, His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon will present the Presbyters Council to His All Holiness. At this time they will have an opportunity to discuss issues of mutual concern to the Archdiocese of America and the Ecumenical Patriarchate. The Council is comprised of two elect clergy representatives from each Diocese of the Archdiocese of America.

It is also expected that final details of the Patriarchal visit to America next Fall, by His All Holiness, will be discussed and finalized by the Ecumenical Patriarch and Archbishop Spyridon.

His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon will return to the United States on April 1.
