Archbishop Spyridon Officially Receives
Metropolitan Paisios and Bishop Vikentios

New York, NY - His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America and Exarch of the Ecumenical Throne in the Western Hemisphere, yesterday received, for the first time as hierarchs of the Ecumenical Throne, His Excellency Metropolitan Paisios of Tyana and His Grace Bishop Vikentios of Apamia.

Archbishop Spyridon will install, on behalf of His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, Metropolitan Paisios as Abbot of the sacred Patriarchal and Stavropegic Monastery of Saint Irene Chysovalantou (36-07 23rd Ave.,Astoria,NY) on Sunday, May 3rd,1998,the Sunday of the Myrrh Bearing Women.

All clergy of the Archdiocesan District and Diocese of New Jersey have been invited to participate in this historic event which has ended an Ecclesiatical division that for years existed in the Church in America.

On April 7, 1998, the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate accepted into the bosom of the Mother Church the Monastery of St. Irene Chrysovalantou, its founders Paisios Loulourgas and Vikentios Malamatenios, as well as its dependencies, and their spiritual communion was restored as a Patriarchal Stavropegion through a formal Patriarchal and Synodical Letter. The Holy Synod also elected unanimously Paisios Loulourgas as Titular Metropolitan of Tyanon and appointed him abbot of the Monastery, while Vikentios Malamatenios was elected Bishop of Apamia.
