Orthodox Observer - December 1996 President Clinton Reaffirms Support for Patriarchate Editor's Note: President Clinton telephoned Archbishop Spyridon in early November to express his support for the Ecumenical Patriarchate and to condemn the recent grenade attack at the Phanar and followed-up his phone call with the letter below. He also said that Mrs. Clinton and their daughter were moved by their recent visit with the Ecumenical Patriarch and tour of St. George Cathedral and the Patriarchal compound.
