Archbishop Makes First Trip to the West
SAN FRANCISCO — Archbishop Spyridon received an enthusiastic welcome from thousands of faithful during his first official visit to the Diocese of San Francisco,Feb. 13-18.
"It was a very positive visit," Bishop Anthony of San Francisco told the Orthodox Observer. "I can say that it was exciting — the people meeting His Eminence for the first time and getting to know him. They were reassured about the future of the Church."
His Grace said that the centerpiece of the visit was the Divine Liturgy which the Archbishop celebrated under a tent, assisted by 25 priests. More than 4,000 faithful attended the service.
Another high point that Bishop Anthony noted was the banquet in honor of His Eminence. The Archbishop addressed a large turnout and expounded on his hopes and goals for the Church.
