D.C.-Area Archons Hold Fund-Raising Luncheon

WASHINGTON — Archons of Metropolitan Washington held their semi-annual luncheon in Bethesda, Md., chaired by Regional Commander Harry Magafan.

At the luncheon, Professor D.G. Kousoulas, state Commander for Metropolitan Washington, reported on his visit to the Patriarch Bartholomew this past summer and on the enthronement of Archbishop Spyridon in New York.

In addition, Kousoulas discussed the continuing difficulties the Ecumenical Patriarchate faces because of Turkish pressures. The Patriarch, he told his audience, favors improved relations between Greece and Turkey because whenever relations between the two countries worsen the Patriarchate feels the consequences.
