Archbishop Spyridon delivered the invocation and stated, "Let me be the first to congratulate these men and women. To excel as these young people have is one of the highest ideals of the Hellenic legacy." The scholarships were presented by Margo Catsimatidis, the event's vice chair, who exclaimed, "to the young scholars, my heartfelt congratulations - you have earned the honors given to you tonight. It brings hope for our future to know there are young people like you in the Greek community." The event also honored two Greek American actors with the Hellenic Times' Humanitarian Award, presented by Chairman Nick Katsoris — Marina Sirtis, who played the role of counselor Deanna Troi on Star Trek for seven seasons, and to John Aniston, who for more than two decades has appeared in the daytime television soap operas "Love of Life" and "Search for Tomorrow." Following the award presentation, John Catsimatidis, Hellenic Times publisher and Red Apple Group chairman, presented a special recognition award to Costa Hayden, the legendary photographer from the Greek community.
