Consecration of Newly-Elected Auxiliary Bishops Scheduled for May 31 and June 13
New York, NY - His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, has announced the consecration dates of two newly-elected auxiliary bishops.
His Grace Bishop-elect Dimitrios (Couchell) of Xanthos will be elevated to the Episcopacy by His Eminence on Sunday, May 31st at St. George Cathedral in Philadelphia beginning at 8:30 a.m. The Formal Election Announcement (Mega Minima) will be read at Great Vespers at St. George Cathedral at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday evening, May 30th. The Bishop-elect will respond with his formal statement of thanks (Efcharistiria) to His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
His Grace Bishop-elect George (Papaioannou) of Komanon will be elevated to the Episcopacy by His Eminence on Saturday morning, June 13 at St. George Church, Bethesda, MD, where Bishop-elect George has served as pastor for 27 years. On Sunday, as auxiliary bishop, His Grace will assist Archbishop Spyridon in the consecration of the church of St. George. The Formal Election Announcement will be read on Thursday, June 11 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of St. Paul at the Archdiocese, followed by the Bishop-elect's formal statement of thanks (Efcharistiria).
