HC/HC Ceremonies Include Installation of President and Welcome for New Students
Brookline, MA- His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, officiated at the installation of The Very Rev. Archimandrite Damaskinos Ganas as President of Hellenic College/Holy Cross School of Theology during the Sept. 13-14 feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, the traditional beginning of the new academic year.
On Sunday evening, September 13th in Holy Cross Chapel the Installation of the President took place at the conclusion of the Great Vespers of Holy Cross. This was followed by the Ceremony of Rassoforia, the official bestowal of the exorasson (robe) upon the 16 members of the MDiv Class of 1999, symbolizing the sacred commission to preach the Word of God.
Following was the introduction of the 18 incoming seminarians of both schools to receive seminarian status for the Stavroforia, the presentation of the School cross to each seminarian from the Archbishop. The ceremonies concluded with the presentation of the Fall 1998 incoming students of Hellenic College and Holy Cross.
His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon said in his address: "Beloved Archimandrite Damaskinos, you have been duly elected the President of Hellenic College/Holy Cross. This is your flock, and you must be their shepherd.. The whole body of the Church looks to you to bring to fruition the hopes and aspirations of the Greek Orthodox people of America."
The celebration of the Divine Liturgy on September 14th included the ordination to the Diaconate of Peter Pappas and ordination to the Priesthood of Deacon Michael Stearns and the Service of the Elevation of the Holy Cross.
