Kaloidis Gift to St. Basil Academy to Fund Medical/Dental Center

New York, NY - His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, announced at the Fall meeting of the Archdiocesan Council Sept. 26th, a gift of $65,000 to fund a Medical/Dental Center at St. Basil Academy, Garrison, NY, from Mr. and Mrs. Dimitrios Kaloidis of Oyster Bay, NY.

In addition to serving as members, respectively, of the Archdiocesan Council and National Board of Philoptochos, Mr. and Mrs. Dimitrios Kaloidis are noted philanthropists, devoutly committed to their Church, their community and their native land.

Throughout the years they have donated over $1,000,000 to their parish of Holy Cross in Brooklyn, including $400,000 to the Dimitrios and Georgia Kaloidis Parochial School, $400,000 in matching funds to eliminate the mortgage of the Holy Cross Cultural and Education Center, a $1,000,000 insurance policy naming the community as its beneficiary, annual scholarships and other needs as they arise. Additionally, they have donated $100,000 to the Laconian Society for a proposed cultural center.

According to Dr. Steven Gounardes, President of the St. Basil Academy Board of Trustees and past president of the community of Holy Cross, renovation of an existing building will begin soon for a fully equipped medical and dental center. "We once again," he said, "warmly thank Mr. and Mrs. Kaloidis for their continuing overwhelming generosity to their Church and their community."
