Statement of His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon

NEW YORK- Upon learning of the circulation of recent letters in the Greek American community which attack and malign members of the Church, His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon stated:

"I personally, and on behalf of all the good people of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, regret the recent letters which have been circulated within our community whose sole purpose is to attack and hurt clergy and lay members of the Church. Upon completion of the recent Clergy Laity Congress in Orlando, Florida, I believe that all participants were filled with a new and positive spirit regarding the life and ministry of our Church.

In a spirit of love and with full and open discussion, the Clergy Laity Congress addressed the challenges which confront our "One Family" and shared with one another our common goal and vision. In that same spirit of love, understanding and unity, I call upon all of the faithful of our precious community to cease any activity which does not build up the Body of Christ, and re-direct their efforts, energies and creativity to making ever stronger the one ministry of our Church."
