Fr. Costa Sitaras Named Director of St. Basil Academy

New York, NY - His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, today announced the appointment of Father Costa Sitaras as Director of St. Basil Academy in Garrison, NY, effective December 1, l998. He had previously served as Director from 1980-84.

Father Sitaras has served the Archdiocese in several capacities since his graduation from Holy Cross School of Theology in 197l, beginning in the summer of 1972 when he was named Assistant Director of Ionian Village in Greece. He served as pastor of Holy Apostles Church in Duluth, MN, from 1972-74. From 1974-86 he was Executive Director of the Ionian Village and concurrently, from 1979-81 Father Costa was Director of the National Youth Office.

In 1984 Father Costa assumed responsibility for the Office of Stewardship Ministry and the LOGOS program until late1996 when he was assigned as pastor of the Church of Our Saviour in Rye, NY. He also headed the Clergy Benefits Office from 1988-94.

A native of Baltimore, Father Costa and his wife Presvytera Georgia have one son, Basil, a freshman at the University of Rochester (NY).
