A clarification about New Rochelle
To the Editor,
On January 30, 1998 you published an article regarding the visit of His Eminence Archbishop Spyridon to our Parish and gave the impression that your sources included the officers and members of the Parish Council. To the best of my knowledge, the only Board member or Officer whom you contacted was myself and the statement I gave you regarding our Board's faithfulness to the Archdiocese was and is the only position we have taken as a Board on this matter.
Mr. Marantis is an Honorary Member of the Parish Council, having been so elected by the Council because in our Community this is the way we recognize many years of hard work and devotion a long time Council member has given to our Parish. However, he does not and may not speak for the Council and his letter and the views expressed therein were not approved nor adopted by the Council. We received a copy of the letter the same day as you did. Mr. Marantis expressed his own personal interpretation of the visit and neither sought, nor needed, the consent of the Board to voice his opinion.
