CFMB Radio Montreal "Hellenikoi Antilaloi" - March 10, 2001
Presentation of
The Lonely Path of Integrity
By Philippos Sophronas
As listeners may have often heard on this radio program, we
are very happy to welcome and promote efforts made by fellow-members of our
Hellenic community in the field of art and letters. We believe that such endeavors
constitute an intellectual offering to the rest of us. We also think that
the encouragement and projection of such efforts are an honor to our community
and build up an active and positive potential, a culturally rich and useful
one.
In this context, we shall dedicate a few minutes to a notable initiative undertaken
by a fellow-member of our community, journalist Ms Justine Frangouli-Argyris.
As listeners already know, Justine's first book, entitled The Lonely Path
of Integrity, has just come out. Much has already been heard about it and
it has been the subject of much debate.
This is a detailed biography of Archbishop Spyridon, which describes in Justine's
unique way - simply, colorfully, and with circumstantial detail - his "works
and days", with particular emphasis on the three years of his ministry
in the Church of America, from 1996 to 1999.
Justine Frangouli-Argyris sketches Spyridon's personality in a highly penetrating
and skillful way using material from his childhood and adolescence, following
his progress closely, almost treading in his footsteps, depicting a striking
picture of a church leader whose actions spring from deeply rooted principles
and a profound dedication to Hellenism and Orthodoxy.
Justine Frangouli-Argyris describes the schemes brought into play in order
to oust Spyridon. She sheds light on the power games --played at many levels:
priestly, political, diplomatic, personal, financial, even at that of vindictiveness--
which set the stage for his dethronement.
